A door worth walking up to
The chevron front door was built off site in a joiner's workshop and took longer to make than most kitchens.

The old house came down; the new one announces itself with a hand-set chevron front door.
The Brief
The family had lived on this Garran block for eighteen years and weren't ready to leave the street — just the house. A full rebuild let them keep the address and the jacaranda out front while starting completely fresh behind the door.
That front door became the signature of the build: a chevron-patterned solid timber statement piece, set into a recessed portico with hidden lighting that washes the pattern at night.

Shot over three visits — dawn, midday and dusk — so the material palette reads the way the family will actually live in it.

What's inside
Every line here is something we insisted on — not something added to fatten a quote.
Signature moments
Small decisions that only reveal themselves once you're living in the house. These are ours for this project.
The chevron front door was built off site in a joiner's workshop and took longer to make than most kitchens.
Riser lighting was recessed into each stair tread on a dusk sensor, so the staircase never needs a wall switch after dark.
The build was set out specifically to protect the root zone of the jacaranda the family had grown up under.
